Why walnuts Walnut trees have always been considered precious – the nuts they bear are not only a delicacy but a healthy one at that. The annual number of harvested walnuts is on the rise. Today, 1.7 million tons are consumed every year, primarily on the European continent.
Walnuts are mostly sold without their shells; these are rarely utilised and typically end up as refuse. Although the excellent combustibility of walnut shells is a well-known fact, they need to be ground in order for them to be useful.

The Griccioli family, which lived in Florence starting from the year 1345, subsequently moving to Siena in 1750, owns the splendid Montechiaro Estate where it produces extremely high-quality Tuscan wines (“vini d’autore”) based exclusively on autochthonous vines and excellent extra-virgin olive oil following the implementation of an enthusiastic modernisation of the company structure.

The estate’s philosophy is to focus on 100% tuscany grape production, emphasing on the beauty and the specificity of the Siena’s hills.
